Position: Driller Helper
Location: Grand Junction, CO
Type: Temporary to Regular Full Time
Wage: $15-$17/hour
Shift: multiple shifts available

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Reports to: Driller/Drilling Program Manager

The primary responsibility of this position is to provide non-technical support to subsurface drilling operations primarily related to soil sampling, groundwater sampling, monitor well installation and geotechnical analysis.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Perform a variety of tasks utilizing related to subsurface drilling as instructed by driller on and off site.
  • Assemble necessary tools and equipment for each project.
  • Assist in completing daily truck and rig inspections.
  • Complete cleaning and maintenance of tools and equipment.
  • Operate service truck when needed.
  • Work in and around slippery and wet spaces.
  • Ensure that proper safety and incident reporting procedures are followed.
  • Support and adhere to company policies and procedures.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Knowledge of proper use of equipment, materials and supplies used in drilling services work.
  • Ability to work independently and complete daily activities according to work schedule.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects, walk, sit and stand for long periods of time and perform strenuous physical labor under sometimes adverse field conditions.
  • Ability to work well with others in a team-oriented environment.
  • Ability to remain calm during sometimes stressful or intense situations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Ability to use equipment and tools properly and safely.
  • Ability to understand, follow and transmit written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to meet attendance schedule with dependability and consistency.


EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
  • High school Diploma or GED. Any combination of education and experience that demonstrates the knowledge and ability to perform the work. Prior construction experience preferred.
  • CDL preferred or ability to obtain CDL within 1 year of employment.
  • Drilling experience preferred but will train the right person.


ENVIRONMENT:
  • Regularly works in outside conditions that include inclement weather, heat, cold and exposure to dust, and potential oil and gas particulates.
  • Requires good manual dexterity (hand, hand with arm, two hands) and multi-limb coordination. Requires repeated hand motion.
  • Must be able to lift, push, pull or carry objects up to and including 100lbs for long distances.
  • Excellent stamina is required.
  • Willingness to regularly work 10-12-hour days due to project requirements.
  • Overnight travel of 2-3 days and up to 5 days at a time is often required. Lodging and meals are paid for by the company.


SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must possess or be able to obtain a valid state driver's license prior to employment with a clean driving record.
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment, random, post-accident drug/alcohol screens as applicable.
  • Must be able to pass criminal background screen as applicable.
